The maximum distance of the CAT5 cable from a USB485 or USB485B adapter is 4000 feet. For the serial SC485 adapter the maximum distance is 100 feet.
After the first controller the maximum distance of all cable lengths between all controllers is 2000 - 4000 feet, depending on the cable type. You can run standard phone cable between controllers, however, CAT5E cable will give you much further reach.
The wireless linkers have a range of up to 1000 feet. The range will be affected by the walls the signal must pass through.
